The Sindh government declares a day off for Kashmir Day on February 5th.

The Cabinet Division has declared that a one-minute silence will be observed at 10 am.

Following the federal government’s decision, the Sindh government has now also declared February 5th as a public holiday, marking Kashmir Day. This commemorative day is observed annually in Pakistan and among Kashmiris worldwide.

A notification from the provincial government has been issued to formalize this decision. Last Friday, Islamabad announced February 5th as a national holiday, with the Cabinet Division emphasizing a one-minute silence at 10 am on that day.

Every year on February 5th, Pakistan observes Kashmir Day to express solidarity and support for the people of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The Kashmir issue remains a sensitive point of contention between Pakistan and India, with Pakistan consistently urging the international community to facilitate a plebiscite on the disputed territory.

The conflict gained global attention after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unilateral decision on August 5, 2019, to revoke Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which granted special status to IIOJK. Pakistan emphasizes that normalizing ties with India is contingent on the restoration of Kashmir’s special status, maintaining a stance that has persisted since the contentious decision.
