The United Nations Security Council is asking for an immediate stop to fighting in Gaza.

The United Nations Security Council, which is a group of countries that work to keep peace, asked Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas to stop fighting and to release any captured people.

Most of the countries in the Council agreed, but the United States, which is usually Israel’s friend, didn’t vote.

The U.S. had protected Israel before, but now they let the Council ask for peace during Ramadan, a special month for Muslims.

The Council also wants to make sure people in Gaza, where the fighting is, get the help they need. Israel’s leader might cancel a trip to the U.S. if they didn’t agree with the Council’s decision.

The U.S. and other big countries like Russia and China have disagreed on what to do about the fighting in the past.
