To clean up its platform, TikTok removed a whopping 18.5 million videos in Pakistan during the last three months of 2023.
These videos went against TikTok’s community guidelines, which are the platform’s rules. This shows that TikTok is serious about following these rules.
Overall, TikTok took down over 176 million videos worldwide during that same period, which is about 1% of all videos uploaded. Most of these videos, around 128 million, were automatically flagged and removed by TikTok’s systems for breaking the rules. Thankfully, upon further review, over 8 million videos were brought back because they didn’t break the rules after all.
Here’s the impressive part: TikTok removed nearly all (95%) of the guideline-breaking videos within a day of them being posted! This shows how proactive TikTok is in keeping its platform clean. Additionally, to protect younger users, TikTok also deleted nearly 20 million accounts that they believed belonged to kids under 13, who aren’t allowed on the platform.
TikTok says its guidelines are designed to make the platform a safe and welcoming place for everyone. They try to enforce these rules fairly and consistently for all users and content.
