Two sisters were discovered deceased in Vehari on Monday night.
Local authorities suspect the killings were an honor crime committed by the victims’ family members.
Acting on a tip, a police patrol unit raided an outhouse belonging to Siad Hussain Dhadhi. Upon arrival, officers heard gunshots and entered the premises to find two women dead. The victims were identified as Ms. Nishat and Ms. Afshan.
Police believe Siad Dhadhi, his son Asim, and other relatives – Adnan, Afshal, and Riaz – fled the scene under the cover of darkness. Authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspects.
Local sources report that the deceased sisters had previously married against their family’s wishes. A panchayat (local council) may have facilitated their return home. Some speculate the killings were motivated by the family’s disapproval of the marriages.
The bodies have undergone post-mortem examination at the Vehari District Headquarters Hospital. The Machiwal police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the named suspects. Siad Dhadhi is currently in custody, while the search for the remaining suspects remains ongoing.
