If Keir Starmer becomes Prime Minister, his first month will be busy with international meetings.
He plans to meet US President Joe Biden and European leaders. His first big event will be the NATO summit in Washington next week. Later in July, he will host a meeting at Blenheim Palace with leaders from France and Germany.
Labour, out of power since 2010, wants a foreign policy called “progressive realism,” which means dealing with the world as it is. They also aim to make Brexit work better and want a security agreement with the European Union.
In the Israel-Palestinian conflict, Labour wants to recognize a Palestinian state and push for peace. They plan to review the UK’s relationship with China, balancing trade and security needs. Starmer has also pledged to work with any European government to address issues like migrant crossings.
Labour will continue supporting Ukraine against Russia and increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP after a strategic review. Starmer will not meet with Russian President Putin, calling him the aggressor in Ukraine.
