President’s Day is a special occasion where people celebrate and recognize all 46 United States presidents.
This holiday has its origins dating back to 1879 when it was initially created to honor the first U.S. president, George Washington. Over time, it evolved into a federal holiday, signed into law by President Rutherford Hayes, and is now observed on the third Monday of February each year.
In the spirit of Presidents Day, the Presidential Greatness Project conducted a new ranking of U.S. presidents, considering their achievements and impact on the nation. According to the results, Abraham Lincoln claimed the top spot as America’s greatest president, followed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson rounding out the top five.
In this ranking, Joe Biden secured the 13th position, placing ahead of Woodrow Wilson (14th), Ronald Reagan (16th), and George Bush (32nd). Former President Barack Obama was ranked 7th.
Notably, Donald Trump received the lowest ranking in the survey, placing 45th, below James Buchanan (44th), Andrew Johnson (43rd), Franklin Pierce (42nd), and William Henry Harrison (41st).
Respondents in the survey were asked to rate presidents on a scale from 0 to 100, with 0 indicating failure, 50 as average, and 100 as greatness. The survey claimed that participants’ political affiliations and ideologies did not significantly impact the overall rankings.
As Presidents Day is a time to reflect on the nation’s leadership, these rankings provide insight into how different presidents are perceived in terms of their historical significance and impact on the United States.
